  • Moving old Netbackup master server to new master server

    Posted on June 13th, 2009 Rewlie No comments

    Recently, we have a customer who wants to move their master server from old master server to new master server, and also upgrading from 5.0 to 6.5, but for this post, I will only blog about moving servers, not upgrade yet since upgrade is not yet done, we still waiting for the downtime from customer.

    The process looks simple, but before that, since there is 2 task involve in here, moving and upgrading, there are prerequisites that needs to be follow to make sure everything is clear on the way;

  • Officially promoted to Senior Systems Engineer

    Posted on June 13th, 2009 Rewlie 2 comments

    Hi,

    I’ve been busy since 2-3 weeks ago with lots of things – installation, preventive maintenance, research, simulation and user acceptance test – some of my friends even said that I have the “pressured” look, well it’s true, but it’s worth the pain in the ass.

    Finally, yesterday afternoon, while I was at Ambank troubleshooting DB2 backup problem, I got an SMS from my colleague saying that new promotion email just came in, but I dont bother at that time, thinking it was for other staff, but then I saw an email from my technical coordinator congratulates me, then I know the email was meant for me.

  • Veritas Cluster Server Cluster File System – the ironic.

    Posted on June 13th, 2009 Rewlie No comments

    Last Monday, I was at one customer site to perform Veritas Cluster Server – Cluster File System installation. It is a very rare applications used in Malaysia due to functionality and of course, the license price. As far as I know from presales department, the license is quoted based on how many CPU’s inside the server, more you have, the more you have to pay for the license. Most of the time, customers only opt to install High Availability version, not Cluster File System version.

  • Leadville driver package aka Sun StorEdge SAN Foundation Software- what is it?

    Posted on May 22nd, 2009 Rewlie No comments

    Ever heard about Leadville driver? Most of you must be wondering what is it since it is not used by most end user, but used widely by enterprise level servers which connect their tape drives and storage via HBA card.

    Leadville is a code name given by Sun for it’s open standard based-IO framework and device driver stack to support fiber connection (FC). With Solaris 10, it is bundled together, for release earlier than Solaris 10, you will need to download it from Sun website. It is available for SPARC, x64 and x86 platforms. It also comes with update release, but for some system administrator out there, there are reason why they use to download the driver manually and install it rather than install the whole update release, usually due to application requirements.

  • Backup Exec for Windows Server – hotfix and service pack installation procedure

    Posted on May 22nd, 2009 Rewlie No comments

    2 days ago, I received an inquiry from client regarding this issue. They ask for my advice on how to perform hotfix and service pack installation in the correct manner, depending on the environment that they have now. Hotfix and service pack installation can drive you and your server crazy if you don’t do it in the correct way. Not all the steps is the same, it is based on the environment that you have. For this case, currently the client is on CAS environment.

    What is CAS?

  • Veritas Backup Reporter – issue with gathering media data

    Posted on May 21st, 2009 Rewlie No comments

    Hi,

    It’s been almost 3 weeks since the last time I troubleshoot this issue. For now, VBR able to gather data for other components like image, jobs, policy and tape drive usage but not for media list. I googled around but cant find the exact solution for it.

    VBR issued a command bpmedialist -l -M master when gathering media list from master server, with that command it will be able to gather the media list from master.

    Inside the log file of Netbackup – admin -, I found this;

    Hi guys,

    It has been a while since I stucked with moving this site to new server in Canada. My old host, which is midPhase, is too slow in responding to tickets, I dont have to tell you about the bandwidths, you can already guess.

    Recently, I have a call for help from a friend asking me on how to setup Netbackup for Oracle with Oracle 10g. Well let’s take a look on the setup first;

    Master server running on SLES 10 32bit with Netbackup 6.5.3

    Client running on HPUX 11.23 with Oracle 10g with Netbackup Client for Unix 6.5.3

  • Welcome to my new home!

    Finally, after a fight with domain registrar about my nameserver not register into other TLDs and also with my old host on getting back the password for main domain, here I am, in my new home inside Central City datacenter, Vancouver, Canada.

    I will start to write again, starting from today, you will see more from me, because trust me, I’m happier to blog with my fast server right now.

    Oh well, I have to sleep, wish I could be awake 24/7 but what to do, I’m human.

    See ya!
