  • Veritas Cluster Server Cluster File System – the ironic.

Posted on June 13th, 2009 Rewlie No comments

Last Monday, I was at one customer site to perform Veritas Cluster Server – Cluster File System installation. It is a very rare applications used in Malaysia due to functionality and of course, the license price. As far as I know from presales department, the license is quoted based on how many CPU’s inside the server, more you have, the more you have to pay for the license. Most of the time, customers only opt to install High Availability version, not Cluster File System version.

If you take a look on my previous post, then you will know what actually going on. Right now all the drives configuration becomes haywire and we have to build it from scratch. Suppose to be, Sun Storagetek SL3000 operates on ACSLS, but due to wrong consultation by Sun sales consultant, they have configured the library to operates on SCSI interface which produce a lot of problems, especially when reconfiguration of drives occur (tpautoconf -a) or swapping the drive position.

It’s been almost a month since installation completed, since I have to wait for customer to open up port 7806 for data collection between VBR Management Server and backup agent.

VBR stands for Veritas Backup Reporter, an advanced reporting system for backup application produced by Symantec, amazingly also support other products than Symantec, like Tivoli and EMC Legato, quite amazing isn’t it? It’s viewing method is similar to NOM, via web browser but with more advanced customizable reporting template.
