Veritas Backup Reporter – issue with gathering media data
Posted on May 21st, 2009 No commentsHi,
It’s been almost 3 weeks since the last time I troubleshoot this issue. For now, VBR able to gather data for other components like image, jobs, policy and tape drive usage but not for media list. I googled around but cant find the exact solution for it.
VBR issued a command bpmedialist -l -M master when gathering media list from master server, with that command it will be able to gather the media list from master.
Inside the log file of Netbackup – admin -, I found this;

Netbackup for Oracle – Linking Netbackup database agent with Oracle database
Posted on May 15th, 2009 1 commentIt has been a while since I stucked with moving this site to new server in Canada. My old host, which is midPhase, is too slow in responding to tickets, I dont have to tell you about the bandwidths, you can already guess.
Recently, I have a call for help from a friend asking me on how to setup Netbackup for Oracle with Oracle 10g. Well let’s take a look on the setup first;
Master server running on SLES 10 32bit with Netbackup 6.5.3
Client running on HPUX 11.23 with Oracle 10g with Netbackup Client for Unix 6.5.3

Building drive mapping / indexing on Netbackup with library not using ACSLS
Posted on May 7th, 2009 No commentsIf you take a look on my previous post, then you will know what actually going on. Right now all the drives configuration becomes haywire and we have to build it from scratch. Suppose to be, Sun Storagetek SL3000 operates on ACSLS, but due to wrong consultation by Sun sales consultant, they have configured the library to operates on SCSI interface which produce a lot of problems, especially when reconfiguration of drives occur (tpautoconf -a) or swapping the drive position.

VBR – Veritas Backup Reporter
Posted on April 28th, 2009 2 commentsIt’s been almost a month since installation completed, since I have to wait for customer to open up port 7806 for data collection between VBR Management Server and backup agent.
VBR stands for Veritas Backup Reporter, an advanced reporting system for backup application produced by Symantec, amazingly also support other products than Symantec, like Tivoli and EMC Legato, quite amazing isn’t it? It’s viewing method is similar to NOM, via web browser but with more advanced customizable reporting template.

Installing Sun QF4 HBA on Solaris 9
Posted on April 25th, 2009 No commentsI’ve just came back from a chat with friends at Kota Damansara, after going to the gym.
Still feel a bit dizzy due to not enough sleep, just 4 hours sleep to finish up this activity.
Printed below is the setup for this activity;
Sunfire v880 x 2 – Cluster
Solaris 9
SG-PCI2F-QF4 x 2
Netbackup 6.5
Before this, our sales people – again, made a mistake by ordering an HBA that is not supported for this kind of setup, always remember to check inside compatibility list, it maybe supported to run under Solaris 9 but it maybe not working with Netbackup or other backup application, for Netbackup case, we need to rebuild the sg drivers, that’s why.

DB2 inside Windows x64 backup troubleshooting – Day 2
Posted on April 23rd, 2009 No commentsAgain, today, I went onsite to troubleshoot the issue since customer SMS’ed me about the backup failure last night.
Well guys, one word from me, never trust your presales department, you will know why after this.
I went in and this time I prefer to go directly to the server rather than remote troubleshooting, this way I feel a bit more open to troubleshoot.
This time is for deep troubleshooting part.
